RCF SUB 705-AS MK3 Subwoofer

The portable 15" high-power active subwoofer, SUB 705-AS mk3, is designed for live sound applications and is the perfect complement for 10" inch or 12" inch loudspeakers!

Who is the Sub 705-AS MK3 for?

Whether it's for live bands or DJ applications, you are able to immerse your audience thanks to the added add depth and size that a subwoofer adds to your your sound. With a subwoofer like the Sub 705-AS MK3, you achieve this without having the need for larger, heavier subwoofers. Many sound engineers prefer RCF subwoofers as their first choice because of their ability to produce high SPL levels at low frequencies, their compact size compared to competitors, self-powered design, long-term reliability, and impressive size/weight to SPL output ratio.

We have noticed that live bands, which typically consist of vocalists, guitarists, bassists, and a drummer, have found the 705-AS MK3 to be an excellent choice for their performance. This subwoofer delivers a powerful low-end punch that gets people moving on the dance floor. On the other hand, DJs have also found the 705-AS to be a great option for clubs and function halls. They appreciate the subwoofer's ability to produce high-quality low-end output while still being easy for one person to load in and out.

What are the features of the 705-AS MK3?

The RCF Sub 705-AS MK3 has the following features:

1400 Watt Class-D Amplifier

The Sub 705-AS MK3 has a peak output power of 1400 watts.

15” Woofer - bass reflex housing

The 15" inch woofer is capable of delivering punchy low end. A bass reflex system, also referred to as a vented box, ported, or reflex port, is a type of loudspeaker enclosure. This enclosure includes a port or hole cut in the cabinet and a section of tubing or pipe attached to the port. The purpose of this port is to allow the sound from the back of the diaphragm to increase the efficiency of the system at low frequencies, which is more effective than a typical sealed or closed-box loudspeaker or an infinite baffle mounting.

Stereo Crossover

The outputs on the Sub 705-AS MK3 are stereo Left and Right, and have crossovers built in (which you can configure. See below) For example, this means if you're using just one SUB 705-AS Mk3, you can send the left and right outputs from your mixing desk into the left and right balanced inputs of 705-AS MK3, and then come out of the left and right stereo crossover outputs of the 705-AS MK3 to each of your top speakers. This way you are optimising your sound with the use of one subwoofer.

Switchable Crossover Frequencies

You are able to switch the crossover between 110hz and 80hz on the sub 705-AS MK3.

Polarity-reverse switch

Flip the polarity of the sub 705-AS MK3 180 degrees.

Bass Motion Control

When searching for an extended bass with enhanced performance, RCF engineers found a way to remove the high-pass filter, replacing it with a forward-thinking approach. Introducing BMC (Bass Motion Control), the newly advanced woofer excursion management feature. The speaker equipped with BMC can handle the lowest audible frequencies without affecting the woofer stability, with extended linearity and better sound integrity.

The bass motion control (BMC) method is used to create a comprehensive map of the dynamic behavior of the woofer, which generates a custom algorithm that limits over-excursions. This helps to give the transducer complete freedom of signal reproduction. High-pass filters are usually used to protect the woofer motion from becoming destructive, but they often change the phase behavior. In contrast, the new BMC algorithm breaks conventional rules and ensures that the woofer can reproduce the desired signals without any distortion.

How does the 705-AS MK2 and 705-AS MK3 compare?

RCF has made significant improvements in transducer design, which has resulted in more powerful speakers. As a result, the amplifier has been updated to keep up with the evolution. The Class-D amplifier can handle extreme sound pressure levels, with an ultra-fast attack, realistic transient response, and very low heat loss, thanks to its 1400W peak power. The speaker design is energy-efficient, eliminating the need for a cooling fan. The amplifier is attached to a solid aluminium heat exchanger at the rear of the cabinet, which has no moving parts. The stereo input circuit, which features a new low distortion design with an advanced safety limiter, has a crossover that maintains the true character of the input signal at all levels. The Switch Mode Power Supply section is designed to combine high efficiency with minimum weight.

Additionally, the 705-AS MK2 subwoofer tends to produce more frequencies above 100Hz, which isn't uncommon, but can cause the sound to become cluttered. On the other hand, the 705-AS MK3 subwoofer is more focused and holds together better when close to its limit due to the Bass Motion Control. In hindsight, the MK2 attempts to perform beyond its capabilities when pushed to the limit whereas the MK3 now exceeds those previous limitations!
