RCF ART 9 Series Overview

What's the deal with the RCF ART 9 Series? Luckily for us product expert and RCF representative Chris Fearn talks through the upgrades to RCF's latest line of active PA speaker.

On The Surface of the RCF ART 9 Speaker Cabinets

All of the RCF ART 9 Series speakers have a fresh, sleek new look. This is thanks to the new full length grill and mono black logo opposed to the previous silver logos. The sizes and weights of the ART 9 speakers are similar to their previous ART 7 counterparts. For example the ART 712 MK4 is 17.8kg and the ART 912 is 19kg. Below is a visual comparison between the latest ART 9 Series vs the previous ART 7 series.

Ergonomic handles are on the top and on either side of the cabinet for easy pole mounting. The ART 910-A has just the one ergonomic handle on the top of the cabinet due to its smaller size.

What are the NEW Components inside the RCF ART 9 Series?

As well as a facelift, the ART 9 has had an internal overhaul. Brand new class D power modules bump the peak output rating to a mighty 2100watts. The new power module is 50% more powerful than previous models in the ART range. Even with all that power there's no need for a cooling system because the new amplifier is attached to an aluminium heat exchanger.

New Compression Driver Materials

RCF have introduced new and superior transducers that are lightweight and powerful. The ART 910, 912 and 915 feature all new Kapton compression drives. Space exploration uses Kapton for temperature-resistant insulation. Designers rely on Kapton because of its ability to maintain its unique combination of mechanical properties under the harshest of conditions. ART 932, 935 and 945 compression drivers use titanium / neodymium.

New M-Brace Structure & Dispersion

In the ART 9 Series RCF have introduced a new structural design. The M-Brace is an internal structure that holds the sides of the cabinet together via the amplifier module. This structure allows the speaker to produce a sturdy sound that it is very similar to wood. Sound disperses at 60 x 100 degrees through a new and updated true resistive waveguide.

The Lowdown on 'Bass Motion Control'

Bass Motion Control is a new part of the DSP that has been measured to allow the woofer to reach its most extreme points without distorting. Speakers with BMC (Bass Motion Control) can handle the lowest audible frequencies without affecting the woofers stability. Thanks to BMC, the ART 9 series has more power, enhanced low end performance, extended bass response and higher SPL.

Updated Presets

The DSP (Digital Signal Processor) on the ART 9 series implements three presets whereas the previous ART series had two presets. Here are the uses for each of the presets found on the ART 9. 'Linear' is for general PA use and live performances, mostly when the speaker is being used as a part of a front of house system. 'Stage' rolls off the low frequencies and os for placing the speaker on its side and using it as a floor monitor. 'Boost' is a loudness equalisation which has been designed for background music.
