XLS Series with Integrated DriveCore Technology

The XLS Series power amplifiers define the standard for live sound systems with unmatched performance, technology, and affordability. This high-performance line consists of four models, XLS1002, 1502, 2002 and 2502. Each amplifier provides enormous power and flexibility thanks to the integrated DriveCore Technology, PureBand Crossover System and PeakX limiters. Also, weighing in at only 10 lbs (pounds) or less, they provide the ultimate lightweight portability.

How Powerful are the DriveCore 2 Power Amplifiers?

Capable of generating chest-thumping lows and crystal clear highs, the four models in the series, the XLS1002, XLS1502, XLS2002, and XLS2502, can meet any demanding audio requirements reliably and within budget. But how do they do it?

Well to start off, Class D amplifiers are notable for extraordinarily high efficiency. For example, Class D amplifiers are well suited for driving difficult reactive loads like subwoofers. However, their performance can suffer on marginal and unstable AC line supplies. 

So, to overcome this obstacle, Crown engineers developed DriveCore Technology. This DriveCore Technology drives the "front end" of the Class D output stage and is a proprietary analogue-digital integrated circuit (IC) that company Texas Instruments helped develop. So, over 60 years of Crown's design knowledge and experience went into accomplishing this powerful technology, resulting in truly remarkable benefits.

DriveCore Technology provides a wide tolerance concerning sagging or "dirty" AC line conditions. It provides consistent performance without affecting audio quality. In addition, DriveCore Technology's patented feedback and PWM modulation circuits enable fast recovery on peak transients, accurate reproduction of low-level detail, and precise tracking of low-frequencies at high power levels for maximum subwoofer output.

Advanced Switched-Mode Power Supply

This advanced power supply is highly efficient and optimized for maximum power transfer from the AC line, through the Class D output stage and to the loudspeakers. A benefit to this is the substantial weight reduction, unlike the older 60Hz transformer-based power supplies.

PureBand Crossover Filter System

The PureBand Crossover System provides a variable state 24dB/octave filter allowing you to choose a point between 30Hz and 3kHz on standard 1/12th octave centres. Three filter types are available: Low Pass, High Pass and Band Pass.

PeakX Limiters

The PeakX Limiters provide your amplifier and system with higher performance and better protection. They are specifically tuned to work with this amplifier design and power supply to achieve higher SPL with fewer audible artefacts while protecting your loudspeaker investment.
