Electro-Voice ELX200 Series Overview
Electro-Voice ELX200 Series
The ELX200 series stands to offer a professional range of loudspeakers in an ultra-lightweight package. ELX200 portable loudspeakers give you professional audio quality, precision control and robust, EV-engineered components in an ultra-lightweight package.
What models are in the ELX200 Series?
Unlike some other manufacturers, the ELX200 Series offers powered and passive versions. And as well as PA speakers, the ELX200 Series features subwoofer models. Below is a list of all of the models, powered and passive, that are available in the ELX200 Series:
Powered Models
- ELX200-10P (10 Inch PA Speaker)
- ELX200-12P (12 Inch PA Speaker)
- ELX200-15P (15 Inch PA Speaker)
- ELX200-12SP (12 Inch Subwoofer)
- ELX200-18SP (18 Inch Subwoofer)
Passive Models
- ELX200-10 (10 Inch PA Speaker)
- ELX200-12 (12 Inch PA Speaker)
- ELX200-15 (15 Inch PA Speaker)
- ELX200-12S (12 Inch Subwoofer)
- ELX200-18S (18 Inch Subwoofer)
So, as you can see, you can have the model to suit your needs: There are 10-inch, 12-inch and 15-inch two‑way models, in addition to the 12-inch and 18-inch subwoofers. For that reason, the ELX200 is flexible straight from the get-go.
Below, I will analyse each category in the ELX200 Series.
ELX200 Series Powered Speakers and Subwoofers
The ELX200 Series powered models are ideal for portable and installed applications. Each of the powered PA speaker models has a polypropylene enclosure that is lightweight and durable, three M10 threaded suspension points, and the ZLX handle design for easy lifting and pole mounting. The powered subwoofer models, the ELX200-12SP and ELX200-18SP, are also ideal for portable and installed applications, but each with lightweight and compact 15-mm wood enclosures, an integrated M20 threaded pole mount plate, and a two-handle design for easy lifting.
The powered versions of the ELX200 Series speakers and subwoofers feature Electro-Voice's QuickSmart DSP control panel. As well as this, the PA speakers have one stereo RCA Input, two XLR/TRS combo jack inputs, and one XLR output. The subwoofers have two XLR/TRS combo jack inputs and two XLR link outputs. I will explain more about Electro-Voice ELX200 DSP later.
ELX200 Series Passive Speakers and Subwoofers
The ELX200 Series passive models are perfect for installation applications. Like the powered versions, each passive PA speaker model has a polypropylene enclosure that is lightweight and durable, three M10 threaded suspension points and the ZLX handle design, again, for easy lifting and pole mounting. The passive subwoofer models, the ELX200-12S and ELX200-18S, also have lightweight and compact 15-mm wood enclosures, an integrated M20 threaded pole mount plate, and a two-handle design.
The passive versions of the ELX200 speakers and subwoofers do not feature the DSP control panel. Therefore, in its place are dual NL4 sockets.
How Powerful Are The ELX200 Series PA Speakers
Each PA Speaker in the ELX200 Series has a maximum peak output rating of 1200 watts. As well as this, the ELX200-10P and the ELX200-12P have a maximum SPL of 130 decibels, while the ELX200-15P has a maximum SPL of 132 decibels.
On the passive versions, the peak output ratings are the same as the powered versions, sitting at 1200 watts. However, the SPLs are more varied. To illustrate, the maximum Sound Pressure Levels of the passive versions are as follows: ELX200-10 is 127 decibels max SPL, ELX200-12 is 128 decibels max SPL, and the ELX200-15 is 130 decibels max SPL.
How Powerful Are The ELX200 Series Subwoofers?
The ELX200-12SP, the 12-inch powered subwoofer, and the ELX200-18SP, the 18-inch powered subwoofer, have a maximum peak output rating of 1200 watts. On the contrary, the maximum peak output ratings of the passive subwoofers are higher than their powered counterparts. For example, the maximum peak output of the ELX200-12S and the ELX200-18S is 1600 watts.
However, there is almost no change between the powered and passive subwoofers' SPL ratings. Specifically, the ELX200-12SP (the powered model) and the ELX200-12S (the passive model) have a max Sound Pressure Level of 129 decibels. But, there is a one-decibel difference between the 18-inch powered and passive subwoofers. For instance, the ELX200-18SP (the powered model) has a max SPL of 132 decibels, and the ELX200-18S (the passive model) has a max SPL of 133 decibels.
The Electro-Voice QuickSmart DSP
Integrated into the ELX200 Series powered speakers is the Electro-Voice QuickSmart DSP. It offers best-in-class processing for easy setups and remarkable results. The DSP utilises a single knob and an LCD control and monitoring interface. To access the DSP controls menu, do the following:

- Lastly, select EXIT to return to the home screen.
On the ELX200 full-range loudspeakers, what features are available in the DSP?
Within the DSP menu, you can modify the following parameters.
Preset Modes
When you enter the DSP menu, the first setting you'll see is Mode. The Mode menu configures the type of sound the loudspeaker delivers. You can select one of the four application-specific preset modes: Music (Default), Live, Speech, and Club. In addition, there are five user-programmable presets available.
Below is a rundown of what each preset is best suited for.
- MUSIC – Best for music playback and electronic dance music applications.
- LIVE – Ideal for live sound applications.
- SPEECH – Suits spoken word applications.
- CLUB – For recorded electronic music playback.
Location
The Location menu is to optimise the loudspeaker for different boundaries. Available options for this selection are: TRIPOD, MONITOR, WALL, and SUSPEND. Below is a rundown of what each location means.
- Tripod - When the loudspeaker is on a tripod stand or speaker pole.
- Monitor - When the loudspeaker is in a monitor position. This setting compensates for the low-frequency boost created by placing the speaker close to the floor.
- Wall - When the loudspeaker is mounted to the wall using the mounting bracket (Mounting Bracket accessory sold separately). This setting compensates for the low-frequency boost created by placing the loudspeaker close to the wall. If used on a column, we recommend SUSPEND mode.
- Suspend - When the loudspeaker is suspended in a 3-point suspension by eyebolts.
Sub Menu
In the Sub-menu, you can select a high pass frequency crossover that optimises your loudspeaker when paired with a subwoofer. Within the Sub menu, there are a few different high-pass options:
- 80Hz
- 100Hz
- 120Hz
- 150Hz
Likewise, the ELX200 Series top speakers also feature high-pass crossovers specifically for Electro-Voice branded subwoofers. Thus, the options available are:
- ELX200-12SP
- ELX200-18SP
- ZXA1-SUB
- EKX-15SP
- EKX-18SP
- ELX118P
Three-band EQ
Following the Sub menu, you can optimise your ELX200 loudspeaker via the easy-to-use three-band EQ. Here are the three EQ settings that you can adjust.
TREBLE
The Treble parameter will adjust the high-frequency performance of the loudspeaker for different applications or personal preferences. The parameter controls a high shelving filter centred at 6kHz.
MID
The MID parameter will adjust the upper midrange frequency performance of the loudspeaker for different applications or personal preferences. The parameter controls a parametric EQ centred at 1800kHz.
BASS
The Bass parameter will adjust the low-frequency performance of the loudspeaker for different applications or personal preferences. The parameter controls a parametric EQ filter centred on 60Hz.
